I love both shots... But the lighting in shot #1 is wonderful, the whole contrast range through the shot sets a deep, dark mood but at the same time picking out the skin flaws and generating depth. I love it!

2 good shots there, they are lovely and sharp. Very good PP on the eyes in both.

#1 is me, a self-portrait attempt. I was bored one evening, so just grabbed the camera in one hand and flash (with attached mini softbox) in the other and snapped away, trying various power settings on the flash.

#2 is my son who never sits still enough to take a good photo. When he does he usually pulls silly faces. This was one of the exceptions.
