A head torch is the thing, lets you use both hands, I've not done much night stuff myself but I reckon quite a dim one is good because it doesn't take as long to recover your night vision.
 
I second the head torch. I always carry one and usually a backup. A lot of those on the market are actually way too powerful. You can get them with dimmer red LEDs which don't impact on your night vision as much.

Just viewing the images on my phone and the Flickr images are private so can't really comment on them but your ISO is lower than what I would use on my D800 for astro stuff - usually around 3200, similar exposure times to yours.
 
Yes a head torch is on the list or a third arm, as well as using a proper tripod as I was on the floor for most of them with the gorillapod as I couldn't get the head off to swap, hence the lack of experimentation but I shall give it another go as it was amazing being able to see the stars with my own eyes.
