Hi all im after some help and im hoping some of you guys have used these lenses and can hopefully point me in the right direction.

Just got a 7d had a nikon with a nikon dx fisheye 10.5mm.
loved the effect so im looking at something for the canon.
I have seen sigmas, canons one and a tokina but have no idea which is best as no shops in my area stock them and the guys in there do not know much about them.
the sigmas im looking at are the 10mm f2.8,
sigma 15mm f2.8,
canon 15mm f2.8,
tokina not sure which it is think its a 10 -20 or even a sigma 10-20

The use will be for BMX, skating and general use so usefull to get alot in the shot when close tothe subject. Any help pointers would be greatfully recieved.

thanks

I have the 10mm Sigma, shooting on a 40D and am very happy with it. 15 won't give you the same effect as designed for full frame. I use mine a lot for skating shots. For image quality check my website www.carlspring.net and go to Action. A few Skate ones shot on that in there.

Overall a great lens, and I have no complaints about sharpness. Obv. works better stopped down to f4 or more, but 2.8 is handy for the rare occasion you need it.

can anyone who has used the 10 - 20 mm tell me if its of any benefit at all

does it give much more range or does the affect not show as much

The only lenses which will fit a 7D and give you an effect similar to the Nikon 10.5mm DX fisheye are:
* Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM diagonal fisheye
* Tokina AF 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X DX fisheye (at the 10mm end)

The Canon and Sigma 15mm f/2.8 fisheyes are designed to give the same sort of effect on a full-frame camera, ie 5D or 1Ds. On a 7D they won't produce so much distortion.

The Sigma 10-20mm isn't a fisheye. No distortion.

tokina i heard was great. I guess because its sigma i thought it may be better quality

the prices avry hugely i have just realised what price should i be looking at for the tokina?

A number of people apparently refer to wide and ultra-wide angle as "fisheye". You won't get any meaningful answers until you clarify what effect you mean by fisheye.

Have a look at these photographs

Taken with a Samyang 8mm lens.

I have the Samyang 85mm 1.4 and it is a great lens. It is built like a tank and gets great reviews. Some people rate it as highly as the nikon equivalent. Both lenses only cost about £200. There is lots of info if you google it.

^^^

Samyang is great value http://www.samyang.pl/product,96,category,5,samyang_8_mm_f35_aspherical_if_mc_fisheye Deals on ebay.

I have the Falcon equivalent of the Samyang 8mm, excellent lens imo, can't fault it for the money, I paid £180 for mine.
