Fitting a lens hood

Hi Guys,

Received a lens hood this morning, and when I go to fit it, it requires a bit of strength to twist it on. This causes the manual focus ring to move, when it was in AF (Camera turned off)

Is this normal? Should I switch it to MF when I fit the hood?

I just dont want to break anything.

Had this problem with a hood for my Canon 24-85 and ended up having to get the lens repaired I would use a bit of WD40 to make sure it goes on easily and ensuring you dont put any strain on the lens
