Hi guys

Just wondering...... picked up a GGS screen protetor for my D300 the other day, does it just stick on to the screen top thats already there? Or do I need to take that out? If so, how?

Take off the plastic cover, remove any dust from screen and stick GGS straight over, job done.

blimey, that was quick  Thanks :D

so it just sits on top of whats already there then? And the one on the top of the camera too? Won't that mean they stand proud?

no because there is a very slight recess and the sides of the body slope down to the screen edge.

;)

But if you take the Nikon one off, there'll be nothing there :D
Just bare screen!

What PsiFox said :)

just got to make sure I line them up correctly then, thanks again guys :D

In theory if you misalign then you can gently lift off and reapply.

Just make sure it is completely spotless and dust free. I find sticking it on in the bathroom is a pretty good way of avoiding floating dust.

Are these actually any good? Am thinking of one for my 5D Mark II.
Are they removable once on, and do they offer anything special other than protecting the original screen?

They arent much better than the original screen for daylight/sun glare.
Yes they are removable
Really just a protector

Think of it as insurance.
Big scratch on the protector=few quid to replace.
Big scratch on the original=lots of money for repair.
Its a bit like having a skylight filton on the end of an expensive lens to protect it from knocks n damage.

Got some on my D700, they're invaluable imo, and seem to make no difference at all to viewing the screen (i.e. there appears to be no loss of brightness or contrast). Did manage to much up sticking it on a bit though

What advantage do these offer over the plastic protector that comes with the camera? Is it just one of aesthetics or is there a genuine case for having one? The one that comes with the camera looks quite a bit thicker and I would have thought it might offer more protection to the lcd from impacts. Is that not the case?

The GGS are glass therefore much clearer also thinner.

Where can I buy one for D700 in UK please? Got a few dodgy looking hits when I Googled, don't want a fake if I can help it....

reason i put one on my D90 was, with the nikon plastic screen cover you can still get dust etc underneath it, so you have to keep opping it off and cleaning it, where as with a GGS screen its air tight nothing can get in there. looks better too

Ahem, I resurrected this thread to ask where I might buy GGS protectors in the UK.... getting more comments about how great they are but I know that already....

Anyone?

How do you get them off again?
I bought a 2nd-hand D3 with these attached and I'm now sat with a previously-purchased clip-on cover that I no longer need...lol

Take that horrible little clip on one OFF before fitting the GGS.

Ive always thought Canons would have been much better with the 'horrible little clip cover' as you call it.

And in my opinion reduce glare

The GGs still smears.

Not sure if they come from the uk BUT ebay is a real good place to buy them.

Bought my 400D one from there and also ordered my 50D on from ebay too.

Spike

These are great to protect the screen and for that I will always use one, but on the D5000 it prevents the screen fully closing when rotated in the closed position, so for all D5000 user make sure you would be happy with this before purchasing.

n.b. I reguarly use the camera in very dirty places and the risk of dirt on the screen and hence a scratch is way to high to not be using one.

Ebay.Thats where I have bought all mine

Same here.

I wouldn't think that this seller is going to 'rip you off' ...

With 100% positive feedback over nearly 15,000 transactions, I'd say that your £7.80 will be in safe hands ;) (that's a cracking price, too).
