While I was in Oz i got some dust appearing on my images and through the viewfinder so I had to give it an emergency clean because I was half way through the Great Ocean Road tour!
Anyway long story short after I cleaned what I could through blowing into it i had to wipe away the dust from the viewfinder using a glasses cloth. After I did that, you can probably guess, my AF points (the red dots that show which points have been focussed on while composing a picture) seemed to be dim and almost non existent. I struggled to find anything about it on the net because I didn't really know the term "focussing screen" so have been putting up with it since. I took it to a camera shop in OZ but he tested it quickly and said AF works ok.. so it's probably best just to get it fixed when I get back here.
So after some proper internet searching I came across the term "focussing screen" and I learned that the etchings are very fragile and wiping them can damage the very precise markings. About 10 minutes ago I came home to find a replacement screen had been delivered and I set to work replacing it. It took all of 5 minutes to do (excluding taking some progress pictures) and now my AF points are back to full working order again. Safe to say.. lesson learned!
Hopefully if anyone else happens to be searching for miss aligned red dots, af points not working etc they might happen across this post and save some time and money by just getting the problem fixed themselves.
PS there was a Road beside the ocean and it was great!
