Hi all, about to jump into the world of flash for the first time, i need a sub £100 flash for my 5D2 Looking at the Nissin and the Yongnuo at this price point, which would you recomend, must be fully auto as well as manual and preferably have the ability to go wireless.

will mostly just be used for fill in flash

Nissin's seem to be pretty good and Jessops to a sub £100 flash with built in defuser, swivel & bounce and remote/wireless capabilities.

They're not the best built flash in the World but for light use they're worth the money IMO

Hi Russ, i looked at the Jessops flash but it's focal range only extends to 85mm, was hoping (naivley?) to get to 105mm.
 
Yongnuo flashes are pretty good, I have three including one with Canon ETTL that works very well with my 40D.

If you want to focus the beam for a longer focal length (narrower spread) there are a couple of modifiers you can buy/make to help.. snoots, grids and the "better beamer" being just three to investigate.

Hi Alastair, which Yongnuo are you using which is ETTL?
 
Russ, I'm using the YN-468.. although 80% of the time I'm using it off-camera in manual with RF-602 triggers, it is handy to have it work ETTL for a bit of fill light on-the-fly. I think the YN-467 is basically the same as the YN-468 with a different user interface.

I can recommend Trevor at CotwoldPhoto if you want to deal with a UK buyer, or HK Yongnuo if you can sacrifice delivery speed for purchase price. I've used both of these sellers for Yongnuo equipment in the past - sometimes it's worth sending Trevor a message (you can also find him on the Flickr strobist group) to see if he has additional stock not listed on his Ebay shop.
