I hope this is the right place for this !

I want to start getting more into my table top / macro photography and am looking for a good starter flash. It would need to be used off camera and have the ability to add a second flash as well.

I am looking for recommendations of an easy to set up and more importantly use system. Portability is key as if I get to grips with it I will start taking at least on unit outside for fungi and flower shots etc.

Not really interested in ring flash as I think thats a bit to specialist.

Have a look at the Nissin Di700 kit - it comes with wireless commander for off camera flash the receiver is built into the flashgun

- I have 2 of these I love them

The Sony flash system is pretty good, based on the old Minolta system and you can fire flashes directly from the pop up flash on the A99.

What do you mean it doesn’t have a pop up flash ;) Damn I miss my ‘beast’!

I use to use the hvl 60m’s with pocket wizard plus x’s as radio transmitters. An expensive solution though!

Les’s Suggestion above is a pretty good one and a ‘cleaner’ solution with the built in receivers. They do feel very flimsy and cheap though at least in comparison to the Sony oem stuff.

D go for a Godox system, x1 transmitter and a 685 flash, or even a Ving flash if you’re not already up to your waist in AA rechargeable batteries.

Thanks Phil, I have been ding some research and the Godox system looks quite good. I havnt been able to find to many reviews on it generally, do you use it yourself?

I’ve used Godox / Lencarta lights for years, I’ve just got the new x pro trigger and an AD200 and my first speedlight, switching to a simpler all Godox setup.

So far I’m impressed with the build and usability of the speed lights.

The new X Pro is not out in Sony format yet (though Godox are working on it), so you'll need an XT1-S trigger, but for what you need I think the XT1 should be fine.

(The X Pro makes it much easier to handle multiple groups of flashes as far as I can tell, but as you're looking to use just 1 or 2 that's less of an issue)

Ill second the Godox advise. Im using the X1T, 2xTT685 and an AD360 with my A6000.
