I have a Vesta Thyristor Auto 2000AT that I used on my 35mm camera. Is there any way I can safely adapt it to use on my Canon EOS450D

It seems as if you can but there is no TTL.
Personally, I wouldn't risk it. Must be pretty old as there is precious little on the web.

To be honest for the price of a Jessops 360 flash its not worth the risk, you can get them on ebay new for around the £45 mark

Don't do it unless you are absolutely certain that it is safe. Old guns often used voltages that can burn out - totally, irreparably - a modern camera in 1/10,000th of a second, give or take.
