Flash guns? Nikon cameras

Yes
I'm not in need of a flash gun, but would like to see what my options are in the future when it comes to upgrading.

People say the built in flash lacks, I haven't found out that it does yet. But as I get more into the field of photography, I will probably end up agreeing. So the thing is, what does a flash gun offer that the standard doesn't? What is TTL? So far, all I know is that recycle times are much faster on flash guns, so quick continuous shots requiring more light will benefit from a gun.

What else?

your built in flash has TTL too.

A seperate flash gives you more power and faster recycle times. It also gets the flash further off axis of the lens, helping to get rid of the 'deer in the headlights' look.

Finally, if you buy a nikon 6/8/900, you can use it wirelessly off-camera with your D80 as a commander, and that's where the real fun begins ;) :)

IN addition most flash guns let you swivel the head so that you can bounce the flash off another surface (Usually the ceiling) to get a softer light.

Mainly its about power (the pop up is good to about 10 feet max and in daylight not powerful enough for decent fill flash) and the ability to bounce, difuse and ultimately get it off camera.
