Okay so i'm fairly confident i've got my head around my camera now (a D7000 for anyone interested) so i thought i would have a play with off camera flash and other lighting. In my head i need a flashgun/s and some wireless triggers as per this basic diagram i knocked up in paint :)

now assuming this is right, will any wireless trigger work with any flashgun, as long as they're all designed for nikon use? or am i being abit optimistic there? :)

if not, is there any equipment anybody can recommend for me to do this? bearing in mind i've stuck to abit of a budget (after just moved into my own flat :) ) any help is appreciated :)

Is short I'd recommend looking at a Yongnuo flash (YN460 would be fine) and a set of cheap triggers off eBay. Any triggers should work, I don't think they are brand specific but I could be wrong on that one. If in doubt just search for 'wireless trigger nikon' on eBay and you'll find the right ones.

You should be able to get a flash for around £45-£50 and triggers for £15-£20.

I believe you can use the D7000 in commander mode, so as long as your flash can act as a slave, you've no need for wireless triggers.

Unless of course you will have the flash out of sight of the camera's flash.

Yes, D7000 has on-board commander functions. That is, the pop-up will control remote slave guns wirelessly, as if it was on the camera.

You just need a suitably enabled slave gun. Many are, but I would get a good one because it will do so many other things well, in particular high speed sync (Nikon's FP-sync) which is really useful for fill-in flash outdoors. Then add cheaper guns and radio triggers as and when you need them.

But I would leave that for now. Get a decent gun, stick it on a stand with a simple brolly and away you go. Really easy. You don't need anything else to start with, except a reflector. Get a nice white/silver one

Ive just started to get in to this to.. im just not to sure on camera settings... all mine seem either to bright or not bright enough..

thanks for the replies guys  i'm afraid there are more questions that have been raised now then

if i was to go for, say a yangnuo 460 i notice i can put them in slave mode, but would they do this wirelessly? also, i take it i can have 2 working together with slave 1 and slave 2? or would i need the seperate trigger to do this? do all the nikon flashguns work wirelessly?

i am appreciative of your replies by the way, it would just seem abit silly to buy the triggers if they're not needed! :)
