Hi
After some more help.

I have a canon 400D and tonight I bought a Jessops 300AFD flash to go on the camera.

So takes it out of the box put the four batteries in and set the camera to auto and nothing, so takes the flash off and takes another pic just using the built in flash and it pops up and goes off and takes the pic.

So attaches the 300AFD again and tries another pic, this time I notice the ETTL light is on on the back of the flash, what does this mean???

It does not come up with flash ready in the camera view finder either and the red light on the back saying the flash is ready does not come on.

What am i doing wrong here, please help.

ettl is the mode where the camera controls how much power the flash outputs. if the red light is not lighting up on the back of the flash it sound like the batteries may be duff. they have supplied a cannon fit flash, you could look at the location of the pins on the foot of the flash and compare them to the pin position on the hotshoe of the camera.

Thanks Dave for the quick responce.

Got confused, pressed the test flash button and it worked so did what you said got four fresh batteries and its working fine, will be going back to shop tomorrow get me monies back for the batteries.

Thanks again

Spike
