Hello TP,

Unfortunately last week I broke my Canon 430ex speedlight :'( So currently I am shopping on ebay for a new one. Whilst browsing I found some Flash Rings and I had always been keen on one.

Does any one have any hands on experience with them? Pro's - Con's, limitations etc?

Ring flashes are designed for macro, primarily. You can use them for more general stuff, and they give a characteristic kind of light that suits some subjects, but not others. They're not very powerful or versatile.

Better at what? No ring-flash is a good substitute for a regular flash gun for general photography.
 
I've found a Flash Ring mount, that mounts onto a normal flash like a 530EX. I did consider a flash ring as a full replacement so knowing that I probably would be better off with a proper flash and maybe a flash ring for an add-on.
