Hi,

Next week I want to purchase a flash set, Bowens or Elinchrom, I am not certain yet which one.
So far I think I go for the Elinchrom BX-Ri 500/500.
The flash set will be used mostly outdoor with battery power.
The Tronix Explorer was recommended to me for powering.
Some questions:

  • Does someone use this Tronix Explorer? What do you think of it?
  • Is this Tronix Explorer easy to handle? Not too heavy / too big?
  • Maybe you have some more tips chosing between Bowens or Elinchrom?
Thanks in advance.

They're both good kits, although heavy and expensive and with limited battery power.
I think I would go with the Bowens because there is a wide choice of light shaping tools available from 3rd party suppliers, which brings the cost right down and increases the choices.

You might also want to consider the Lencarta Safari, also with Bowens fit.

Hey A.T.
I am using Tronix Explorer XT with my Elinchrom DLite but I don't think it compatible with Elinchrom BX-Ri 500/500.
My Tronix Explorer XT works perfectly with my DLite4 with recycle time of only 2-3 seconds using the highest load. For me is it easy to use and I guess the weight is just fine, not too heavy for me. It is really easy to use because I just have to plug my lights to my Explorer XT and turn the unit ON and start shooting.

Here's a link to the compatibility chart and it says here that BXRi is not compatible
