I wonder if you could help me please?

I have been successfully using a youngnou RF-602 flash trigger on my D700, D300s, D80 and D50 cameras (full manual control of 3 x SB600's) but for some reason it doesn't work on the F5 I own. However, the F5 does trigger Bowens and Interfit triggers and of course the SB-600's - whether on the hot shoe or an extension cable.

I've asked the importers but they can't help.

Does anyone know what it is about the F5 that stops it working?

Iasked Gray's - their response "Unfortunately we are not able to advise you on this issue. The item you use is not certified and approved by Nikon therefore is not officially supported.

Also as we are Nikon only we don't have any experience with this product. I would advise you to give Nikon UK a call on 0208 541 4440 and ask to put you through technical department, hope they will be able to assist you on that matter."

and Nikon - their response "Thanks for the email. I appreciate that Grays have passed you on to us but we also don’t test third party products so cannot categorically say why your flash trigger does not work on your F5.

The RF-602 specification says that it will work, but the F5 does use an older TTL system than that of the other cameras you mention - the F5 uses Nikon’s TTL system, whilst the DSLRs use either D-TTL or I-TTL, which is slightly different. Although you may get some level of compatibility, we quote that there may be an inconsistency when using a combination of the 2 systems-could it be that you need a different shoe plate for D-TTL?

It surprises me that the importers for this product cannot answer the question-I would suggest that you go back to them. Sorry I can’t be of any more help."

And the importers "As far as I know (but this is only theoretical, as I don't know anyone who has tried the F5), it should work. I can only assume it has something to do with the age and that the set uses the other pins to activate the flash wakeup and also to ready itself to fire. Not something I can fix. Try putting a post up on the Strobist flickr group. I have seen no mention of this before"

Anyone able to help?

The first thing that springs to my mind is to try triggering the 602 by connecting it to the F5's pc port rather than via the hotshoe...

How do I do that? All it came with from Cotswold is the hot shoe trigger, 3 receivers for the SB-600's and a couple of leads for Bowens et al; a 3 pin socket with a locking collar on one end and a phono jack at the other. I see the trigger has a PC(?) socket as do the camera. Is it as simple as connecting the two together?
