Flash triggering with 600ex-rt help

If I use an off shoe camera cord with a 600ex-rt, can I still use that as the master to control another flash on a stand via RT? Or would I need the transmitter mounted on my hot shoe for that to work? To me it seems like it is an extension of the hotshoe and shouldn't affect the 600, as it will think its on top of the camera, right? If that's right, it should still be using the radio triggering and there won't be a problem? If it isn't going to work, I will buy a different flash, so I was just wondering before I buy anything.

Functionality is the same when using an OC-E3 as having the flash directly on the camera hotshoe...all radio functions perform the same.
