I recently watched a tutorial on taking water splash photos and the guy uses a wireless flash and trigger or should i say flash and wireless trigger. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwExpFDUC9Y
I know absolutely nothing about flashes but would like to invest. Would this one be ok and also does the trigger need to be bought in addition to all flashes?

Do all flashes have IR?

I think these are what he's using so obviously i would add a flash but will any work?

Either of those trigger sets will be fine, although the first one also has an in-built optical trigger so will via a flash from a pop-up flash if needs be.

I can't see the full spec of that flashing on my iPhone but if it has a manual mode (where you can set peer levels yourself) then that should be fine.:)

Good little tutorial video that - he's the guy who provides the training vids for one of the photography mags. Might do some myself once the little un is in bed and the missus has gone to work... passes the time :)

the first flashgun link is manual only, it does not have i-TTL for your cam, so is really of little use as a on cam flash.

PS, hows the Mito ? ........... pretty dirty like my Punto probably :bang:

Hello there mate! Thanks for the headsup as i dont know anything about flashes! Er....the....MiTo....its mingin! I havnt washed it since the last NED Day months ago! Im embarrassed to admit it aswell!:help:
I didnt know you were into photography etc. So would i be better off sticking with a Nikon Speedlite or sumic? Any advice would help and maybe theres some Jap copies or something?

I'm actually a Canon guy so maybe some of the Nikon users will step in here, but the Nikon Speedlites are your best bet for total compatibility. Having said that, the Nissin units (not Nissan lol) get some rave reviews and I think they will work with the Nikon Creative Lighting System. I do know that they can be fired remotely without a cable as a slave unit.

Have a look on youtube, you can get some great tips.

Cool, ive looked at the Nissin Di622. Would that work wirelessly straight off or would i need a trigger like this?

My lass will kill me haha! Ive found one on ebay for £20 but theres no bids yet so i imagine it'll go for more... Ive been told no more buying! lol
 
If you are using a wireless (non TTL system) then any flash with manual power settings will work.

If you want full auto go with Nikon sb800/900

For what you want to shoot (droplets), manual power settings are all you need - TTL systems are just an expensive indulgence that will probably not give you anything more than a manual set-up will.
