Reading up on flashes and lighting and I would like to get an extra flash and remote trigger thingy for my 5D Mark 2.

Already have the 430EXii but I wanted to get some advice on what to get as an extra flash. I don't want to spend a lot. I want to get something that equivalent to a 580EX, Chinese style etc.

Which ones should I look at.

Also, I would like to get remote trigger for both to fire at the same time, not as a slave device, electronically triggered. Actually, I may use slave set up depending one what you guys suggest is better.

Thanks

The Yongnuo flashes and triggers seem to be very highly rated. I have a set of RF603 triggers and they are very good and easy to use. I am also looking at one of their YN-460ii flashes as a second flash - currently about £30 on the bay and very good starting point.

Tractor, thanks for the tip. Just had a look at these and noticed some others. Do you know the difference between the RF603 and the Yongnuo CTR-301P Wireless Flash Triggers?

Also, is the YN-460ii equivalent to the 580EXii? I would like to have a secondary flash that is as powerful as the 580EXii. I already have a 430EXii and will use that one as well.

Another q, there are different models of the RF603s compatible with Nikons etc. Is the C3 version to get for Canon? Will that cover me for my current Canon 430EXii as well as the YN-460ii flashes or is there a canons specific YN-460ii as well?

Well now you are testing my knowledge :suspect:

I don't know what the difference is between the 603's and the CTR-301P - what I do know is that the 603's are quick and easy manual triggers that work well over a decent distance.

I suspect that if you look at the guide number for both flashes you will probably need the more powerfull yongnuo yn-560ii to get near to the canon flash power.

For Nikons the three different modesl of trigger are related to specific models - I would guess that the Canon ones do the same so you will just need to check which model suits your camera. For the Nikons the different models is related to using the trigger as a remote trigger for the camera itself.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi How about a nissin i866 this will do as master or slave, high speed sync etc. I have the ex580mk2 as well as the ex430 mk 2and they work well together. Try your local shop and take along your camera and flash to make sure the nissin works but I am almost certain they will? Regards. Mike

Tractor, thanks for your help on this. I will have to dig a little deeper on the info. The goog may offer some answers. Cheers

MDB2, Just saw the nissins, a lot more expensive that the Youngnous so will pass on those. If they are going to be aftermarket ones, might as go for the cheaper well known ones. No?
