hello,

in the future i will be after one, a nikon speedlight of some sort

but what should i look for?

some are battery powered, some power from the camera (i think)

but how do they work and whats best to go for(apart from the most expensive for instance)

pro's and con's of them also if possible?

i know i am asking alot here but i have never owned one

thanks

i doubt there are many powered by the camera, if they are avoid, wont be good enough. the sb600 or sb800 are the two nikon that seem to be mentioned often. The sb800 is the more powerful, master light. the 600 is not as strong and no commander function(cant control other speedlites). both these flashes will keep ettl(or whatever the nikon equivelent is).

the 600 should do you well, but if your unsure the 800 will cover everything. you can always turn them down, but you cant turn the 600 up over max

I can fully recommend the SB600 though I have heard good things about the 800. It depends what you want it for and how far you can stretch moneywise.

just to use for low level light ior indoors if asked or needed sort of thing. nothing urgently to be honest but i guess it would come in handy
