Flashgun or Compact Camera Dilemma

I don't know what to get, I really would like a flashgun for my DSLRS. But I would also like a new compact camera for ease of carrying about. I am just trying to figure out what would I get more use out of

I just don't want to go and buy a flashgun, then wish I had of spent the money on a new compact camera. I have about £250 / £300 roughly to spend, maybe a little more depending what is available.

Thinking of the Nikon SB-910 or similar. But I keep veering towards wanting a new compact camera instead!

You say why you want a compact, but why do you want a flash? If you could get by with something less than the top of the range 910, could you not have both?:shrug:

I borrowed a friends flashgun, and I loved it. Just wanted the same as his, that's all. That's what I have my mind set on.
