Can anyone recommend a good flashgun for a Nikon d300s besides the Nikon Sb range?

Nissin always gets mentioned - think there's one that will with CLS via the onboard pop-up flash for TTL off-camera.

Metz and Sigma are probably the other two full TTL manufactures. Not sure if Yongnuo do TTL flashes these days....

Gotta love the SB800 though - full compatibility, great build quality and dead easy to use. Picked up a used one a few months back through Calumet's eBay site for £170, works great

Thanks specialman,,,,,,,, Youngnuo do ttl model 467 or something like that!, just not sure about the quality of it. Would love an sb800 but I've just bought the camera and funds are low!!!

For £100 you can pick up one of the early DX SBs like an SB80DX - will work with DSLRs but not sure if they're totally in-tune with modern matrix metering. I used to use an SB28DX on my D2x and it was fine - cost me £45 off the bay.

By all accounts, the Yongnuo ones are pretty good. Not SB build quality but they provide what you need at a price that's right. HoppyUK and Flash In The Pan (members on TP) have pretty good knowledge of them - might be worth a PM to them.

Think the strobist flickr group has a lot of Yongnuo users too - might be worth doing a search of discussion threads to see what crops up. BTW, if you haven't been on there before, there are a few people you need to take with a pinch of salt - Wizwow and Mr Dat being two
