FLD filter?

I've just bought a Nikon 16-85 from a member on here who very kindly included three filters, UV, CPL and a FLD. Whilst it was very nice to get the filters, and I can use the UV and CPL, I don't know the purpose of the FLD, can anybody enlighten me please?
Obviously I tried a couple of shots in the garden, one with the FLD on and one with it off, and all I could see was a photo with a tint the same as the filter, or is that it?

Just found the answer on another forum, the FLD filters correct the balance when shooting under fluorescent light without flash.

An FLD filter is used to convert flourescent light to daylight and is not needed with digital as you can simply change the white balance. These days all their really used with is daylight balanced slide/transparency film as colour negative film can be corrected during the scanning/printing stage
