I have a basic flickr account and want to put more than the 200 images i'm allowed on the site. I don't want a pro account so is there an alternative website for posting my shots which does not have a limit to the number you can upload?

Do you have a BT Internet connection?

If so, you can get a free pro account from Flickr.

You can have more than 200 images on a Flickr basic account. They don't show on your photostream (only the 200 most recent do), but they are still there if all you're doing is using Flickr to host images and they will still appear in forum posts, etc. Read this carefully for full details.

I use photobucket. I got the pro account as it's only USD $ 20.00 per year.

There dozens of free image hosting sites, just do an internet search, or shove them on your free webspace provided by Virgin.

So you're not able to see them if you go over 200 images? What's the point then? I could understand it if I could see all images but everyone else could only see the most recent 200, but if i'm not able to see all the images in my photostream I don't see the point... :-S

If you only use it for hosting, do I take it there isn't a community as such like there is on flickr?

There is a community there, but it's smaller and not as active as Flickr - although TBH I've not really explored that side of things very much. Personally I'm happier with the community and quality of feedback from right here :D

Might seem a silly question and i appreciate the answer depends on what you actually want to achieve........ but why not just upgrade to a Flickr Pro account, the $24.95 is about £16.00 for a year's membership.

I just want somewhere where I can host more than 200 images, i'm already up at about 180 on flickr.

I wouldn't use the resr of tthe benefits of a pro account on flickr so see no reason to pay for it if I can help it.

But you get what you pay for. I use Pbase - very good but a small fee for use

US$23 yearly for 1000 MB of photo storage.
US$43 yearly for 2000 MB of photo storage.
US$60 yearly for 3000 MB of photo storage.

Purely for hosting I like pix.ie.

An unlimited number of photos, and although there is a monthly upload limit I've never come close to reaching it.

Thanks Sarah, just signed up.

Pix.ie looks good. Just note that they can use your images whilst being hosted on their site. This is an extract from their t&c.

"We do not claim ownership of photos that you choose to Post to Pixie. Pixie neither has nor wants any ownership of your photos. However, by posting or making photos available through Pixie, you hereby grant:
to the Company, a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable licence to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display photos and/or graphics you Post on Pixie, solely for the purpose of providing the Pixie service.
to the Company, a perpetual, irrevocable and fully sub-licensable license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform and publicly display Content other than photos and graphics (in whole or in part) and to incorporate such Content into other works in any format or medium now known or later developed.
to each user of Pixie, a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to access and view your Content, including photos and graphics, through Pixie, in compliance with these Terms and Conditions.
You acknowledge and agree that any Content contained in public postings, including any galleries that are not designated as private, will be accessible to the public and could be accessed, indexed, archived, linked to and republished by others including, without limitation, appearing on other web sites and in search engine results. Therefore, Pixie advise you to be careful about the nature of the Content you post. Pixie provides many security options and settings for your Content and Pixie strongly advises you to familiarise yourself with these features. Pixie will not be responsible or liable for any third party access to or use of the Content you post.
Your license to Pixie with respect to any Content will terminate once you or Pixie remove it from Pixie. However, you acknowledge that Pixie may retain archived copies of your Content."

I'm pretty certain the same can be said of flickr, although i'm not able to access their t&c at the moment.

Correct

"(b) With respect to Content you elect to post for inclusion in publicly accessible areas of Yahoo! Groups or that consists of photos or other graphics you elect to post to any other publicly accessible area of the Services, you grant Yahoo! a world-wide, royalty free and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, modify, adapt and publish such Content on the Services solely for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting the specific Yahoo! Group to which such Content was submitted, or, in the case of photos or graphics, solely for the purpose for which such photo or graphic was submitted to the Services. This licence exists only for as long as you elect to continue to include such Content on the Services and shall be terminated at the time you delete such Content from the Services."

So you're not able to see them if you go over 200 images? What's the point then? I could understand it if I could see all images but everyone else could only see the most recent 200, but if i'm not able to see all the images in my photostream I don't see the point... :-S

No, you can only see the last 200 in your Photostream. You can still see the rest in sets.

You want more than a free account allows in storage but you're not prepared to pay £16 for the privilege?....

One benefit aside from the extended number of images you can host is the ability to host the original image. I don't know whether Flickr turns it into a JPEG automatically (I've never needed to use this function) but it could come in useful as a back-up option....

I have used photobucket for years & now also use flickr.:)

Flickr is only $25 per year for a pro account... best VFM for me ;)

Flickr pro...... well worth the £16 a year. Great forum, comes a close 2nd to TP!!!!!

I use Imgur for storage

Tinypic for quick one off hosting

I don't use Flickr for anything
