Hi All,

I know that this may have been asked may times before but whenever I search for Flickr every post with Flickr signature comes up!!!
Can some one please explain (in childlike terms) the settings and licensing options on there as I can't make head nor tails of it!! :help:

Thanks in advance!

search for flickr on TP you mean?

what do you want to do that for? what is it you need? i'm bamboozled too :bonk:

It depends what you after I personally just go for the standard copyright all right reserved, though I have in the last week switched on the licence via Getty option, so we will see how that gets on

Sorry about that!
I keep trying to find on TP if anyone has previously asked a question about the settings on Flickr. I was on the Flickr site the other day trying to choose settings regarding licensing and such but they really confused me! They kept using words like 'creative commons licence' and 'all rights reserved' and I was getting super confused - especially when they threw Getty in to the equation!
So, my question here is can some one please explain very simply what is the best option and what they actually mean!
Hope that makes more sense!
Thanks

Thanks MWHCVT. What does the Getty option offer as that confused me too!

Basically a creative commons licence (CCL) will allow certain people/groups/organisations to make use of your image, there are however a number of CCL with different levels of restriction on who can use your image and how, and also what level of atributation/recompense is required with use

Copyright All Rights Reserved (ARR) basically if you have set your photos will ARR license this means that you image cannot or maybe I should say should not be used with you expressed permission/consent

Getty, this is as I said something new to me, but as I understand it, it allows someone to request to licence you image for use via getty the stock image library and you then receive some payment for that use, I must add I need to do a bit more research on this option myself

Hope this helps a little

The way I see it.

All rights reserved == nobody can do anything with your images without your express consent
Creative commons == People can do the things expressely permitted by the lincense you choose, but nothing else

The getty link just means that should getty deem one of your images suitable for sale, they will ask you if they can market it for you. If you say yes, they will.

I've opted for all rights reserved, plus getty. I don't expect getty to like my images, but ya never know.

Whatever options you set on Flickr you'll get your images knicked. Just keep them off Flickr!

Thanks for that guys makes a lot more sense without all the jargon in there! Major help thanks

Quite right. After printing my pictures, I delete the originals, then burn the print. That'll stop anyone stealing them! ;-)
