Hi,

I have finally got around to finishing v3 of my Flickr ReLinker application and have designed one just for the use of TP members on this forum.

It is a freeware application, at the moment only for Windows OS.

In this v3 incarnation I have added the ability to not only recode Flickr image links, keeping the linkback, as is their terms & conditions but to resize them on the fly.

I have put 2 resizing options:-

800px on longest side
&
1024px on longest side

Now there is no reason at all to have to upload specifically sized images to your Flickr Photostream in order to display them here on the forum.

Just link away to any of your images and all the headache is gone away.

I really need as many people as possible to have a go with this application to further iron out wrinkles.

You can email me via the application with any bugs or feature requests.

Linky here.

Kind regards..,

MT :)

Sounds good, as my TP gallery is filling up! Will dl tonight and put it to the test :)

Seems like it's not really working... or either I'm not getting how to use it!

Here's a couple of tests then!

It doesn't seem to like square images. It didn't put the 800x800 in the img tag. Manually updated it... let's see if it works...

Here's a "normal" photo...

That's what I need, input!

Thanks, yes well spotted with the square images, I will get on top of that.

I can see that the images are not being displayed, only the links.
Seems like the BBcode for this action is missing from the forum, I will contact mods to see if this can be rectified.

Regards..,

MT

Very handy tool though. If you manage to get the mods to agree to fixing up their dodgy BBcode (:p) I'll definitely use it. Will save me heaps of time converting that link to an linked image in BBcode

I have sent the mods a message, so fingers crossed.

My main reason for writing the app was because I became fed up with having to upload tons of different sized image just so they could be used on the various forums that I belong to where image size specifications all vary.

Now I can upload the one image to Flickr and just keep drawing on that.

Kind regards..,

The BBCode you're referring to isn't part of vBulletin I'm afraid.

While they can technically be added, it's the underlying reasons why we haven't done this in the past. The code relies on the full size image being downloaded...then resized, which we don't want happening. It would cause unnecessary slowdowns and an increase in people posting large shots (file size wise)

Oh well, a little bit gutted but I suppose I can understand, it is reliant on the members themselves not abusing the code and trying to post huge images.

I guess it is more of a trust thing than anything else.

Hey, ho!

Off to my next project, I am thinking about some kind of Flickr preview app that users can search their photostream and choose which image to link.
Of course, there will no resizing though.
The image will have to be naturally within the forum limits as set out.
Unfortunately Flickr does not have a standard 800px on longest side size only the nearest of 500px.
Having said that though, it is not necessary to post an image at the maximum allowable just because you can, maybe 500px is large enough for preview purposes as long as there is a link to the original perhaps, worth considering.

Anyone who has download my v3 [TP] app, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Please uninstall it and go back to the v1 and then apply the v2 patch.

Kind regards..,

K ;(
