Just learnt how to do this today, so here's my first 2 efforts.
It's done by using Elliptical marquee tool, Lasso tool and radical blur in photoshop.

Love it I think that it works best with the purple background as the second one you can still see some purple coming trough the black and that just looks wrong I also like the contrast between the yellow centre and the white of the petals

Hi. Thank you Don't know why the black is showing purple. It's black with lighter shades going through to white in the center.
