I am after getting a fluid head to use with my Giottos MTL 8350B tripod.

I read somewhere that it requires a 75mm bowl adaptor. What the hell is one of those and do I need one to mount the head on my tripod?! :thinking:
 
Bowl adapters are generally for fluid heads with a curved (half-ball) base - they're normally used for TV/film cameras. The bowl sits between the head & the legs and the camera is levelled by tilting the head in the bowl. Here are some bowl adapters http://www.pure4c.de/dynasite.cfm?dsmid=105322. If the head you intend to buy has a flat base you don't need a bowl adapter. What head do you have in mind?

Hmm. Methinks you really need two heads - a ballhead (or a pan & tilt) for the 1DMkIV** - and a fluid head for the camcorder.

If you go for one or the other it will only perform one of the jobs properly.

(** Pan & tilt probably not much use with a 70-200).

I think you are quite right. I actually have a ball head so I just need to buy a suitable fluid head.
 
The choice of fluid heads depends on the weight of the camcorder - generally heavier equals more expensive.
