Yes
hello everyone can anyone put me right about taking cameras battery's memory cards etc through the xray scanners at the airport will they be damaged

As already said, they will be fine, but make sure that if you are taking any spares battery's that you have the protected terminal covers in place on the battery's, otherwise I have heard of security taking them away as they could short out and cause a fire.

In the olden days film was at risk (high ISO I think). When digital came along I can remember having to switch on my camera and take a photo. Nowadays there is no problem or hassle at all.

I've not had a problem before taking spare batteries but not being one to tempt fate where would you get a protected terminal cover from? I'm off on a, long awaited, holiday next week and I'm not taking any chances of anything going pear shaped be it confiscated batteries or my batteries incinerating the plane:eek:

The batteries at least for my Canons come with protective plastic pieces to cover up the terminals. Both the battery that comes with the camera as well as extra ones bought separately.

Do I use them? Actually yes :)

just got back from a few weeks away, and i took spare batterys out and put them in my case, but then read somewhere that spare batterys should be put in hand luggage only!?

anyway my camera backpack with a body , couple of cf's and 2 lens's went through 4 different xray machines fine with no problems or questions, so imagine you'll be ok

Ive taken my gear all over europe. The only issue I ever had was coming back from Poland.
The butch security woman motioned to me to open my bag. Her expression when she saw my Giottos rocket blower was priceless. She genuinely thought it was a hand grenade or something. I spent the next 10 minutes trying to explain to half the airport security what it was.

Batteries and cards have always been fine. Imagine the amount of holiday makers who take cameras away with them. I have never heard of a problem.

LOL

But I have also travelled with kit through x-rays and my camera lives to tell the tale so all should be fine :D

my brother says mine is a but plug, so maybe they were gonna go for the old strip search routine :p

fast film can be upset by the xrays but digi kit should survive

I came back from turkey, and had no problems

I doubt if it would pass customs, even drinks in bottles have to be in an official sealed bag.I would ask who you are travelling with, or the airline, who would be best to advise.
