Hi,

I've recently returned from a trip to Paris that I took my D5000 with the 18-55mm and 35mm lenses. I did find that the 55mm was lacking but appreciated the 18mm end. I am looking at several lenses, the 18-105, 16-85 and 18-70 as improvements for the longer end. Would anyone be able to post sample images of the same scene at the following lengths to give me an idea of the difference:

16
18
35
55
70
85
105

Thanks in advance.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply. I had found that also, whilst close it isn't exactly what I need. One thing of interest though, at the higher lengths there isn't a lot between them.

I noticed that too which surprised me. There is another link about too.

Thinking about it, I guess it is the proportional increase in zoom. 200 - 300 is 50%, whilst 300 - 400 is 33%.

In contrast 50 - 100 is 200%

Hi Jukka,

It was quite often whilst in open areas like the Eiffel Tower and close crops from a distance for candid people shots. The link you posted has a calculator that I have been messing with and it is a toss up between the 16-85 and 18-105 at the moment.

Thanks

I have the 16-85, and use it as my walkabout lens on my D300s. It's perfect in that respect
