What exactly does this switch do

is it to assist af within the limits set quicker, or is there something else

many thanks Bob

Only got a similar switch on one lens - the Tamron 90mm Macro. On that, the switch is there to prevent the lens hunting all the way from infinity back to closest focus when in AF mode, so helps the lens aquire correct focus faster (as long as the switch is set while the lens is in the right area - I may have left it set at close focus then tried shooting a portrait...)

thank you nod, that was my understanding, i wanted to double check i understood it

Yes, if you are shooting say sports, by selecting the 6m-infinity (for example) range, provided all your subjects are always further than 6m, then you will get faster focussing than if you select the say 2m-infinity range.

A good few years ago I bought a Sigma 105 Macro. It has a switch on it that says Limit or Full. I use to put it on limit for macro and full for portraiture. Not sure this is right and I admit I hardly use the lens for anything, but I'm guessing that's right?

If it works for you, then it's right,
