focus motor goosed ??

my nikon 17-35 f2.8 lens seems to have lost its ability to focus
will focus manually but not automatically
any way to check lens before i put in to get checked or repaired ??

any help appreciated

To rule out the camera - try the lens on another body. If it still won't AF on the second body - check the contacts on the lens are clean.

contacts look clean
looks like its going to be expensive

It could still be something relatively inexpensive - e.g. the auto/manual switch (which would be easy to replace).
