a lot of time it wont focus , i have to do it manually
how do you test the focus motor ???

Crikey, over 50 views and no responses? Here's a handy step by step guide.

1. Mount lens on camera and remove lens cap.
2. Switch camera on and put into AF mode.
3. Select a suitable target and point camera at target.
4. Press button to activate AF (shutter release, or AF-ON, or whatever you generally use on your camera).
5. Take picture.
6. Examine photo to see whether it is in focus.
7. Repeat from step 3 as required.

tried the above 10 times 3 times it just wont lock focus so shutter can not take pic ????

Do all your other lenses focus ok on your camera body? Have you access to another camera you can try your lens on?

I'm not sure I quite understand you. You tried it 10 times? And 7 times it did work but 3 times it didn't?

If I've understood correctly and it's intermittent, try cleaning the contacts on both lens and camera, then repeat your tests.

Make sure you're using a nice contrasty target in good light not too close to the camera (ie beyond minimum focus distance) - a car number plate from a range of >5m would be good - and make sure the camera is set to single-shot focusing rather than continuous focusing. If you do that, there's no reason why it shouldn't lock focus.

it does seen intermittant
what is best for cleaning the contacts ?? some form of electrical cleaner ??

Dont know if it is right or wrong but I have had focus issues in the past after having wet or dirty contacts and to clean the contacts I usually use a cotton bud and some of my wifes nail polish remover, there is probably a proper product but it worked okay for me also check that the little silver contacts press in and pop out okay too.

Typical contact cleaner is IsoPropyl Alcohol (IPA) and nail varnish remover is Acetone, either will do the job.
