Focus not sharp

Has anyone got an explanation to this. When i use my Nikon D300 with the 18-200 lens outside with high speed sync, it knocks the focus slightly out. My friend is a pro tog and had this problem with the earlier model the D2x, and now with his D300s. Its weird.:bang:
 
What exactly do you mean by high-speed synch - flash-synch? What Speedlights are you using?

I've not used either camera or lens you mention, but I've never had any similar problems with any of the Nikon DSLR camera, flash or lens combinations I've used, from the D1 onwards...
 
Jango, talking to some one here at my work place who seen this and he started laughing, he used to have the same problem and took it back to the shop where he gets all his stuff. Took in the camera with his flashgun and they said it was some thing to do with the firmware on the cam.
When it was returned the problem was no more.
 
John i do not understand, why did he start laughing. Did they return his camera to Nikon. Mine is just over 1 year old, only just started to use the flash this way. I use sb900 with it.

When shooting outdoors you can set flash in menu on camera to 250* 0r 320* for the flash to balance with daylight and be able to use higher shutter speeds, its when this is used it throws the focus slightly off. Its strange John says what he does because i have come accross someone this morning that has said its a software fault.

Nikon 18-200vr mark 1. My mates is D300s with Nikon 18-200vr mark 2
 
:shrug: could well be a software issue then.... its always best to check with nikons website you have the latest firmware installed for your camera, but after that might be a manufacturer repair. Of course you also need to be sure its not user error.

Thanks Jan - I know what high-speed flash sync is - I use it all the time when in Afghan and Iraq due to the light-levels there.

From the OP it wasn't clear that this was what was meant as there was no Speedlight mentioned.
 
My friend is a little bonkers, it reminded him of the time where he was thinking it was his fault but to find out it was the cameras fault in the end was better.
