I planning to go on Wednesday and look at portable lighting equipment, as it seems interesting new heads and equipment geared towards exclusively portable use is coming out. Would it be worth it?

The cheapest portable lighting stand was Bessel. They were cheaper for a reason, but it was a lot cheaper than the big names...

Go and have a look at Quadra Ranger, I've got a set and love it. The guys at The Flash Centre were really helpful with me, plus make sure you check out the Frank Doorhof sessions, he's very good, and pretty funny.

You should have got her to look at broad street, some great restaurants and bars up there, and a theatre nearby, as well as being great for shopping, (from a woman's perspective
) i go and stay up there about 3 times a year, and i have southern friends who go up there regularly, and love it, i get annoyed when people slate Brum, as most of the time it's by people who have never been there, yes i agree it has some crap areas, but don't most big cities ? ok a bit of a drive from the NEC, but a worthwhile break all the same.

I went yesterday and attended 3 talks
Sue Flood on "From the Arctic to the Antactic and in between"
Sue has worked on Frozen Planet and Planet Earth and her photos were brilliant to supplement her talk on what it took to get the shots
Marc Aspland (Chief Sports photographer for the Times)on "the Art of Sports Photography"
Inspirational and a new way of looking at sports photography
Danny Green (wildlife photographer) "The EOS 1Dx one year on"
Magical images of wildlfe in frozen Finland and even more frozen Poland
All these made it a brilliant day for me
Ive got all the gear I need so didnt need queue up or fight to test anything. I dont do portrait or studio stuff, so I wasnt inconvenienced by fighting my way through the crowds around the scantilly clads
I did speak to the guys at CPS about connecting my camera to my laptop via ethernet cable, but they werent able to help. I'll need to work that out for myself in due course
If there are some decent talks on again next year, I'll go again
Oh, and made a point of meeting Steve from Cliik. Bloody nice bloke

Thanks guys, I'll definitely go tomorrow then.
Went today.
1st time i have ever been as only just started getting into Photography.
I did not take my DSLR, but there were plenty of people with them. Not really sure why to be honest. Think it was just to take photo's of the few pretty girls that were there.
Managed to pick up a Nikon 35mm 1.8 Lens though though for £119. From Calumet.
But I did also buy a Hoya HMC UV Filer from them as well for the above lens at £15. Driving home I thought I do not really need a UV filter on this lens as it obviously came with a lens hood as well.
Maybe someone can give me some advice on that bit.

The only reason I took a camera last year was to try out lenses on my own camera I was thinking. I did see someone with a 100-400mm lens yesterday.

Went today, hot, full of models and perverts. Saw one interesting guy talking about his passion for photography, rest of the speakers seemed like drones. What they were teaching seemed painfully obvious to me. Flirted with a Canon employee whilst trying a 5D MkIII so not all bad, also took advantage of Bowens 20% discount to buy a Gemini 400rx kit and large travelpak.
