Hi Everyone

I have a problem with my camera and hopefully someone can advise on a solution or point me in right direction.

I have a Canon 450d and several days ago I noticed a spot on the viewfider. Looking closer it appears to be a very tiny creature magnified. It is not affecting the picture quality but it is doing my head in.

After some investigation on threads on here I now realise it is on the focus screen, but I think it is on the opposite inaccesible side. To the naked eye it looks like a grey pin prick.

My query is how can I get rid of this, and if it stays there will it do any damage to the camera. I am aware that on some canon models the focus ring can be replaced. Is this possible (or needed?) for my camera , and if so how much does it cost ?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers
Nick

Hi,

If you don't feel confident removing a focusing screen simply dont do it, they are incredably fragile and easily damaged. A smudged finger print will show up an you are likely to make the problem worse. I removed my focusing screen becuse I had a small hair in mine, have no idea how it got there. see the link below:

Simply remove it and use a blower to remove the dead creatue :). Hold it at the small tab with a pair of tweasers and dont touch the flat sides if possible. Be careful with the tweasers in the proximity of the mirror. Some camera stores will offer this service if you dont want to do it yourself.
