Hi,
The problem with my NX5 is that it can't
focus on small objects like a finger or a flower. It always focuses on the
background instead. If I want o take a photo of my finger I have to put my
whole hand in front of the camera and than it would focus on my finger as
well, otherwise only the background is in focus. I have 3 lenses and every
time the same problem appears. I updated the firmware and asked Samsung but it didn't work.

What lens are you using? Its most likely that your lens is not capable of shooting that close. For example If an image is the same size as the subject, then the ratio is be 1:1, or life-size. You lens would need to be capable of shooting at this ratio or more if you want to get even closer. Not sure if they do a macro or close up lens for your camera maybe maybe not.

p.s Maybe this should be in the photography section as while its called out of focus its not for people who cant focus haha

Thanks for your advice but I took the distance into consideration and used 3 different lenses (50-200, 20, 18-55) and with all of them the camera focuses at the background if the object in front of the camera is small (finger, flower, post etc). As I already mentioned before if I want o take a photo of my finger I have to put my whole hand in front of the camera and than it would focus on my finger as well, otherwise only the background is in focus.

Have you tried putting the camera, into single point focus :)

I tried every possible mode including spot. I am not sure if there is a single point focus option in NX5. I tried to find about it in the manual but couldn't find anything...
Thanks mate

How close is your finger to the end of the lens?

I tried different distances and it is always the same. If I place 2 fingers or more in front of the camera it focuses well but when it is one finger it is out of focus. And as I said before it is interesting that after the camera has the 2 fingers or a palm in focus it would also have 1 finger in focus, but when I start focusing process from 1 finger then again only the background is in focus. So, when I want to take a photo of a small flower first I have to place my hand in front of the camera close to the flower, and only after that it is able to focus on flower and not on the background http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/bang.gif.
Sorry for my English. I hope you can understand what I mean...
Cheers

If you've already done this then ignore me but...

Have you put it into Single AF (SAF) mode, rather than Continuous AF (CAF) ?

Page 62 of the manual I found on the net shows how to change the AF to single point, adjust where that point is and even the size of the AF point. Maybe you just need to reduce the AF point size or position.

You are a genius man!:thumbs:
Yes it was single AF but I didn't know about the possibility to reduce the size of the single point. It looks like the AF works much beeter now when the size is reduced except in poor light. I will check it tomorrow in the daylight and let you know.
I contacted the Samsung guys and they didn't tell me what you did mate!

I was looking for something in the manual but I missed the info about reducing the size :bang: Shame on me.
Thanks again

Happy to be of assistance and nice to hear that it sounds like you've got it sorted.
