Yes
I have many M42 lenses that I use frequently and would need some help with the focusing.

I have read that focusing screens cannot be installed on the 7D, is that right and what other options do I have?

Thanks

There's no reason at all why you can't fit a different screen to a 7D. Like any other body, you'll have to figure out the metering and make the neccessary allowances for the different metering modes.

Not according to this and other things I read but maybe they are wrong

Do you have a link from where I can buy a 7D focusing screen?

I'm not sure where the guys in the link have got their info from but I'm sure it's not valid.

The 7D's screen is positioned infront of the transmissive LCD that has the various features projected onto it.

Not available yet but "coming soon" according to this site http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/

My only recent experiences are with Katz-Eyes screens. They're precision matte and I've no idea what the new hexagon matte does differently.
My only advice would be to choose based on your lenses. With slower lenses then brighter screens work fine but you don't want a screen too bright if you're going to use f/1.2 to f/2 lenses primarily.

Thanks for the input Bob. I will go with the N-3 then (have been reading that it is a good compromise for brightness and ease of use) and I hope I will be happy with it.

The apertures of the M42 lenses I will use it with are:
1. f1.4
2. f2.4
3. f2.4
3. f2.8
4. f3.5
5. f4.0
6. f4.0

Id go for the K3, looks very like the Kats ones.

Choice needs to be made very carefully Dave. Too much opacity and the viewfinder will be darkened with slower lenses...viewing the detail required for focussing becomes difficult. Too little and the screen is brighter but the focus won't "pop" with faster glass.
Katz have their "Opti-brite" option for slower lenses but it's very definitely a negative with fast glass....as I know to my cost :(

Pity theres no option to try them out first.
