This is a follow on from my post 'Brass Monkeys' with the suggestions incorporated from that post, straighten horizon and try B&W. Plus I have PS them a little and cropped to my liking in Elements 7. I have never tried B&W so I don't know what I'm doing other than what looks right to my uneducated eye. Your comments appreciated.

Two pictures from the same stand, slightly different settings and different sea.

PS, looks like I've messed up on pic size, although the larger size looks better to me, dont know if there are any restrictions on size, or if you can see them all? Me and my new 22" screen. lol Do I need to re size?

Re Sized, had to change the file name!

Max width 800 px mate :-)

I kind of like these. The sky is completely blown around the sun but it still seems to work. You could try toning down the sun with a grad filter in PS. It wont bring the detail back but it will make it easier to look at

AndyB,
OK sorry, I will re do the size, must have pressed the wrong key, usual work on 800.

Strang that, as you say the sky is blown, but it works? I do this a lot, and usualy get away with it enough??? Need to get me a 'grad filter'. :D

Hey if it works go with it. The thing is a grad wouldn't help a lot when you are shoting directly at the sun in anycase but t would stop it blowing so much.

What you could have tried with this shot is either waiting fr the sun to move e a round a bit so it was just out of view (although itmight loose some of the drama) or find a willing model to stand in front of the sun to produce a silhouet but that might have been difficult unles they are very tall in this case :-)

:( wait . . . that was zero degrees and 20+mph Easterly coming straight across the North sea from Siberia!! 'my tinny little hands were frozen' . . . Plus of course the tide was just right at that time, an hour either way, and we loose the drama of the sea crashing on the high beach and around the groins, A willing model? Hazel was sensibly, staying in the car watching . . . she thought I was:cuckoo: So, yeah, I made the best of it?

I'm still learning, not new to photography, but new to thinking about what one is doing, its getting better, I think  Waiting for the snow to stop, got some 'snow drops' in the garden crying out for me to photograph them.:)
