It's something I've always wanted to get into. Can anyone recommend any books on the subject? I've picked up a few tips from various threads here but also enjoy having a sit down and a thumb through a good old fashioned bit of text on paper.

Particularly interested in the use of natural light although I'm not averse to using artificial lighting.

Yep, done that but I'm too involved with creating the culinary masterpiece to have time to photograph it.

Why not buy some cookery books for inspiration? I read an article somewhere that Jamie Oliver works with a top class food togger .....

Actually, I do have a book (*** Chef by Gordon Ramsay) and the first half of it is just the photos with the recipes at the back. The photos are sublime so I'd like to get a book that helps with the technicalities and tips about lighting.

Food photography and styling by John F. Carafoli is one book that I have from many moons ago when I used to do it for a living. If you can find a secondhand pro lighting one on food shots they're also excellent

For a diverse portfolio of work you should check out the books offerd here: http://www.contactebooks.com/

They're designed to advertise to potential customers so won't give you tips on lighting set ups but they've really opened my eyes about the range of styles and quality of work out there.

Thanks for that. I had a little flick through the first book and there are some amazing photos there. I'm now very hungry!
