The Sony RX100 may be the new answer. Somehow has a 1 inch size sensor in there combined with a 1.8 lens....

I think the sensor size is the same as the fuji x10 - you've got to give credit to Sony though, they seem to be ahead of the game for compact cameras at present; although i personally love the retro look of the fuji cameras

That "1 inch" sensor sizing sure is confusing when an inch is 25.4mm yet the sensor size is 13.2mm x 8.8mm.

I think "2.7x crop" is easier to understand, in the same way that MFT is 2x crop and a consumer DSLR is 1.6x or 1.5x crop.

The thing that sony seem to fail at pretty consistently is raw support. Some of their 'enthusiast' compacts don't have it at all, and others the raw support is shoddy at best.

If they could bring this up to standard, well they would definitely be ahead of the game

Whoops, looks like I fell for the headline "1 inch sensor". Can usually see straight through marketing but expected a 25.4 sesnor.

Okay, so the jury is still out for replies to daily "which compact" threads...

I thought that none of their current compacts had RAW enabled?
& therefore enabling RAW for the RX100 was 1 a bit of a statement of intent ...
