The South African Capri. Came with a 302 cubic inch V8, if I recall. Only available in orange.
And a good shot of one too :)

Thanks all.
I can't decide if the tailend is a little soft or it's just the light bouncing off the gleaming orange paintwork. The Mk1 Escort below was giving me the same trouble.

Cheers Matt. I find myself looking at the Classic Fords on ebay more and more of late, although my no.1 choice would be a Mk1 Cortina, preferably Lotus but 1500GT would do. :)

Great shots

The Mexico....now I remember these. As a 17 year ol s spotty mechanical apprentice I used to get a lift to work in a Mexico and the RS 2000 Mk1's. Happy days:D

Cheers, there is a great video of Mk1 Mexicos racing at Brands in the 60's Jack Brabham Trophy race with lots of F1 team managers driving.

I knew a bloke at work whose 1300L Mk1 Escort was stolen out of the car park at work. Police contacted him several months later to say they had found his car. When he went to pick it up it was now a Mexico.

I had a bronze 3ltr in 1976, used to call it the flying ****e. Would go really well in a straight line.

The reason this one is orange is because the original was a Team Gunston sponsored racing car and the Team Gunston colours were orange, brown and gold. The road cars came in a variety of colours, some may have been orange. About 500 V8 engined Capri Peranas were built by Basil Green with Ford South Africa's support.

I remember going to Kyalami as a boy in the early 70's and watching Bobby Olthoff, Koos Swanepoel and others dominate South African saloon car racing with these cars until General Motors SA brought out the Chev (Vauxhall) Firenza CanAm with a 302 Chev Camaro V8 - the "Little Chev". Those were the days! :D

Excellent photo and thanks for the memories.

Thanks for the comments. I think these shots were more successful than the GT photos I took.

you can see the influence of the V8 yank muscle cars...
drove my dads, granada 2.8 back in the day...(B reg ex police training car)
would have loved to try one in a smaller, lighter capri LASER!! :)

Thanks, I am very jealous, sadly I was just a tad too young when these were new.:(

My uncle bought himself a Capri Brooklands back in 1980 something (one of the last ones made) as an investment.
It sat in his garage, unregistered, until a couple of years ago when he sold it, so somewhere there's a guy driving round in a '56 plate Capri :D
I know it's not technically new, but it's as near as possible I would've thought!
