I'm planning on nipping down to the Forest of Dean after work tomorrow for an afternoon/evening photographing wildlife from my hide. Has anyone got any suggestions as to where to go and set-up? I'm looking at getting some deer, boar, and possibly some birds of prey towards the evening side of things (mainly looking for owls). Understandably, I may not get a thing, but if anyone has any pointers, it would be appreciated.

I take it nobody has any pearls of wisdom?

But seriously I don't shoot wildlife so am not much good to you, am surprised you haven't had a reply yet, well a serious one. I am guessing it will be trial and error and over time getting to know the area extremely well. Is there a website for the Forest of Dean which may provide useful info or links?

There are some guides to download HERE regarding walks and routes around the forest, I would choose an area away from the routes to set up the hide.

I go mountain biking in the Forest of Dean, Seen boar and deer around Cannop, park end, Birds of prey have been spotted around New Fancy. Take a look here http://www.birder.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ it gives news of sightings. I would say though although I mentioned I've seen deer and Boar from the mtb tracks it can get extremely busy there with people.

Yes, be very very quiet.....................:):exit:
You mean to tell me that all those critters out there DON'T like heavy metal! Damn it. Thats where i've been going wrong all these years.

You might try contacting Dave Slater, I did a workshop day with him last year and his knowledge of the Forrest of Dean was immense. I found him very approachable and willing to offer information long before I decided to do the w/shop day. http://www.djsphotography.co.uk/
