Formula 1 (and other categories) 2019

As Paul said, an interesting race!

Would have been a different story had LH been fit (IMO). TBH, I think the penalty was correct - he was trying to avoid going round again before stopping to get his car fixed but was too far past the pit entry to do it "properly". I wonder how much time he would have lost on the damaged lap (had he done it) compared with the extra time the cocked up stop and penalty cost him...

Just wondering who (of real note) SV overtook.

Great drive by MV, despite his team's attempt to give him unsuitable rubber!

Its nice to see the Merc team having a chink in their well oiled team
I bet they are practicing what to do when Lewis drops in unexpected next time
There will be a big led sign saying, lap by lap, these are the tires he needs and they are here (accompanied by a big arrow )

I was pleased that VER won, but gutted that LEC put it in the fence. I still don't rate VET, though no doubt he will now be seen as the second coming. I think it was quite telling the BOT dropped the ball big time, and no doubt that will not g noticed by Toto. I'd say he's on dodgy ground now, much like GAS.

Agree, Lewis's penalty was probably fair enough. What was surprising in my view was the lack of a penalty for Charles, 5 second penalties have been handed out in the past for unsafe release in the pits.

That's old information from a couple of years ago that someone has cobbled together in to a new story.

Sad to say it but I'd be surprised if he even knew it was F1 on the TV.

That's old information from a couple of years ago that someone has cobbled together in to a new story.

Sad to say it but I'd be surprised if he even knew it was F1 on the TV.

There must be some element of being current as it mentions watching the German GP, though I do agree that odds are MS just happened to be in the room where the F1 was on. Even the way Todt describes it doesn’t say MS actually watched with him.

"I'm always careful with such statements, but it's true,” Todt told the station. “I saw the race (last weekend’s German Grand Prix) together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland."

Not going to like this post due to the sadness of the situation.

The Todt story is just a new look at it from someone who knew MS when he was MS rather than a shell that looks like him. All I hope for MS is that he's unaware of the situation.

When Lewis came in, the pit crew were truly woeful!

From what I've read, that's actually just fabrication of an article about Todt watching the Brazilian GP with him the year before. They just changed it for this story that seems to have surfaced based on no new information at all. There isn't even a record of Todt appearing on the radio show the quotes are taken from..

Well, he did dive in unexpectedly, needing a bit more than they would be expecting anyway!

Another good race in F1, Ferarri now know they have work to do.

Mercedes seem to have glued the ball to their hands this weekend - no dropping at all!

Yes, even their stategy dept made a good call!

TBH, I'd probably stick with VB rather than go with a newcomer to the team (as a weekend driver). While VB is being soundly beaten by his team-mate, he's still holding on to 2nd place in the WDC (and he's up against [arguably!] the best driver on the grid as a team-mate!)

I still really rate KR and would love to see him in a top car and allowed to race his team-mate, something he wasn't allowed to do in his second Ferrari stint.

I'd probably agree, VB is solid if not spectacular although I think Ocon would have made a more determined effort at getting past the under performing Renault than Bottas did. He may crash more too which would be a downside for the constructors championship.

Kimi is doing very well at Alfa, partly because they are not a big team and he's enjoying being in F1 without having to do as much media stuff.

Gasly gets demoted, Albon to drive the Red Bull.

Red Bull Racing has confirmed that Alexander Albon will take Pierre Gasly’s seat for the remainder of the 2019 Formula 1 season.

Albon, 23, will move up into the seat as of the Belgian Grand Prix at the end of the month, with Gasly returning to Toro Rosso after just half a season with the senior Red Bull team.

Gasly has struggled to match teammate Max Verstappen during their time together at Red Bull thus far. Verstappen has claimed two race wins and picked up 181 points, while Gasly has only achieved a best finish of P4, scoring 63 points.

Despite Red Bull team boss Christian Horner saying in Hungary the team intended to keep Gasly in the seat until the end of the season, the decision has been taken to demote the Frenchman back to Toro Rosso.

"Alexander Albon is being promoted to the team to drive alongside Max, while Pierre will return to the Red Bull sister team, Scuderia Toro Rosso," a statement from Red Bull reads.

I see the first wind tunnel tests have been done on a 2021 spec F1 car. Looking quite like an IndyCar.

My two favourite circuits on the calendar coming up, though I'd really like it if there was a way they could encourage the teams to take the downforce off for Spa like happens at Monza so Eau Rouge becomes a challenge again. Problem is the gains in the middle sector from higher downforce are greater than what is gained from low drag on the two very, very long flat out blasts.

Fastest lap 1’44.503 (Jarno Trulli, 2009, qualifying two)
Fastest lap 1'41.501 (Sebastian Vettel 2018 qualifying two), who took it from Neel Jani (1'41.770) in a Porsche 919 in April 2018.

2020 provisional calendar, 22 races. Vietnam and Netherlands in, Germany out. Observe the Canada date. Italy not confirmed as no contract in place at present.

Esteban Ocon joins Renault F1 Team

Renault F1 Team is pleased to confirm Esteban Ocon will join forces with Daniel Ricciardo from 2020. The French-Australian duo will be tasked with continuing the team’s progress during its fifth season in F1.

Twenty-two-year-old Esteban, from Normandy, France, will join Renault F1 Team on a multiple year contract. The Frenchman is well known to Renault and Enstone, having been Renault reserve driver in 2016 and also a Lotus junior programme member.

Spa and Monza next week could be quite decisive for Ferarri, in theory these tracks should suit their car very well. If they don't put in a good performance in these two races there could be heads rolling.

Tragic news, thoughts are with the family, team and Juan Manuel Correa.

That was a shambles at the end of q3

Total shambles, the whole slipstream / towing thing is beginning to spoil qualifying, much like Moto 3 in motorcycle racing.

It shouldn't be a factor in the next few races so hopefully it'll be back to normal.

It's only Spa and Monza that they would get a large advantage but yes they should concentrate on getting clean laps in, I doubt any of them would have improved if they'd made it over the line in time as they were all too close anyway
