The great thing about the forth bridges...you stand between them. Sunset on the left, golden light in the right! Vice Versa in the morning.

C & C welcome.

Gary.

Fabulous! Almost. Not sure about the vignetting - otherwise, it's a stunner.

Liking that Gary, must admit not too sure on the vignetting, but nice shot all the same.

Cheers guys,

Not sure if I can remove the vignette. Used that crazy filter again, 30 seconds 10 stop. It burns the corners in unless I go longer, and left remote at home :( :bang:

Still, excuses excuses. Noted for next time!

Gary.

That's a gorgeous looking shot! Love the colour gradient effect around the main subject, and how you gave the sea that pale ghostly appearance . . . something I really would like to try for myself.
Good to see you back on form, Gary, keep it up. :)

Nice Gary. Love the colours. I'd be tempted to see how it works with a crop to remove some of the vignette and make it more pano styles

I can live with the vignetting, the shot is superb.
One for the wall.(y)

now thats more like it:LOL: great shot Gary (y)

Thanks Guys,

I prefer my rail bridge shot, as this is a little OTT and the colours can be a bit overbearing after a while. Glad you like though!

Gary.

Love both your bridge shots especially this one. How long before the third Forth bridge appears?

A few years yet. Tells you something about our society though, doesn't it? The Victorian era rail bridge is still going strong albeit with a lick or two of paint, whilst the road bridge, built in 1963 or thereabouts, is falling down.

Thanks all for the continued comments.

RE: Bridge 3. I dunno. I find it ironic that a bridge a century old, stands up to more abuse than its younger brother built all those decades later.

Looking forward to seeing this new bridge.

Gary.

Gary, can I ask what setup you used for this pic and did you PP it? The colours/contrast etc are what I'm looking to achieve yet have not been able to shoot one like this :)

You can ask....but I will have to kill you once you have the knowledge! On your head be it...! :D

The first trick with this shot, was the filter used. It's a specialised filter (It's not really but it makes me sound cool saying it). The specialised filter hold a whopping 10 stops of light back (I think), it's made by "B&W", not to be confused with the lack of saturation version. The B&W filter screws onto the lens, and allows INSANE exposure times during the day (I think up to 10 minutes). This exposure was taken for 30 seconds, which gives the water a frozen / melted / smooth feel. Once I had the basic shot, I had to PP it to get it more dramatic.

The PP consists of blending two versions of the same exposure. One I optimise for the sky, give it that insane blue glow. The other, a more muted tone for the water. I then use layers, and soft erase the water from the sky optimised shot, which reveals the water optimised shot beneath.

Lastly, just do some layers and curves - sort the contrast, clean up any filter crud, resize, sharpen, add borders and upload!

Glad you guys like, I still think it's mega weak next to the rail bridge shot.

Gary.

Awesome, thanks for the insight :)

Just one more question, when PP'ing - what layer type did you select? (normal, colour, hue, overlay etc?)

Thanks again

Beats me!!! :D Dunno what you are on about? I am really crap with Photoshop, I only know some bits.

Gary.

I'm guessing normal overlay then :)

You say you are crap but then produce stunning photos like this one - did you use the D3?

To be brutal, I don't "click" with most of your use of saturation (over/under) and vignettes, but I bloomin' well like this one.

I did indeed. I just know very simple things in PS. Seems to be quite effective.
