Over the christmas period I have found a short fall in my focal distances.
My 10-20mm is too short and the next lens I have is 28-135mm and that was slightly too long at the short end at times.

I started to look and found the canon 17-40L F4 seems to be the one but at F4 it will struggle indoors without a flash or lights, so lookied at the canon 17-40 F2.8 USM and whilst this will do the job it seems that at just under 1K its a tad too expensive.

I was wondering what other people use and other things to look at, around them focal lengths.

Thanks

The Canon 17-55 f/2.8 is a corker of a lens if your budget can stretch to it.
Super sharp, not too heavy, but heavy enough to feel sturdy. Its nigh on "L" quality glass.

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 if you want to spend less than half of what the Canon will cost. IQ is brilliant, build not as good as Canon (but it's still decent) and the AF is slightly slower and noisier. For £300 it's a bargain.....

What about that new Tokina, the 16-28 f/2.8? It's brand new so haven't heard much about it but Tokina do some sweet glass and although a bit pricier than Sigma, have a reputation built on the quality that was impart from its Nikon roots. They make some of Pentax's new AF lenses too....

17-40 2.8? You mean 17-55 2.8?

Sell the 28-135 (it's designed for full frame) and get the superb 17-55. You'll probably use it for almost everything and I found the overlap with the 10-22 to be ideal. 15-85 is also excellent (and a bit cheaper) if you're happy with f/3.5-5.6.

You can get the 17-55 for under £700, and I'm guessing that Kerso would be closer to six.

As a stop gap, the kit 18-55 will get you by - under £100 second hand.

Thanks for all the advice guys

Yes Hoppy sorry I did mean the 17-55 F2.8, this is the one that covers all bases really and the one I was looking at more than others.

Like you say as a stop gap i might get the 18-55 is for now and then save up for the other one.

Thanks again
