Free maintenance service initiative - Nikon

So what do people think, about the Nikon free maintenance service initiative, at first for selected D800 users but now also including D700.

When it first came to light, for the D800, I thought it was Nikon's crafty way of a doing a recall, on the quiet. But now the D700 has been included, could it be a goodwill gesture and will other models follow?

Even if it's a sneaky way to fix something on the QT, it's still an official, free maintenance. I (as a Canon user) say good for Nikon.

Presumably quite low numbers will be invited to apply? So it could be their way of checking out wear & tear.

I think this is the most logical reason. US only at the minute.
