I am thinking of taking the FX plunge, but I am wondering if my newly acquired Sigma 70-200 f2.8 will be up to the job. I would also be buying the 24-70 f2.8 Nikon, plus probably a 1.4x TC. Any opinions gratefully received. Thanks.
I went from a D300 to D700 but with lens makers the other way round. 3rd Party (Tamron) for the 24-70 range and nikon for the 70-200.
The Tamron works great with the D700 and I am sure from reading other threads that the 70-200 if its nice and sharp on your D90 will provide lovely pictures on the D700.
Not tried a 1.4x TC so cannot comment there.
For me the higher ISO quality completely trounced the D300 and made it a worthwhile investment.
I went from a D200 to a D700 a couple of months ago and also bought the 24-70. The 24-70 is a seriously good lens really! The D700 will show up the inadequacies of poor lenses. I nearly bought the Sigma 70-200 myself a few days ago but picked up a Nikon 80-200 instead. The nifty fifty is great of the D700 too. Not sure about TCs but would be handy due to the loss of the crop factor multiplier.
