Had my D700 + kit for a while now .... but have recently seen some superb sample pics from the 5D mkII canon .... for the money the resolution from the 5D mkII is amazing ... now would love that sort of resolution in my D700 but the only one near it from Nikon is the D3x which is expensive to say the least .. ive probably got over £5000's worth of Top Nikon kit. Has anyone here moved over to the Canon 5D mkII from the D700 ?

let us know if you part with any of your kit ;)

cant comment on anyone who has moved, think theres at least one on here who went other way i think?

It baffles me why people jump from one to another.Yes the equipment is different, but surely the biggest component of the perfect image machine is the person looking through the viewfinder?

why? given the amount of money put into nikon equipment. i'll probably stick to nikon if i were you.

as above,

nikon and canon are in so much competition with each other they will constantly be bringing out new models to better the others.

it was only a few months ago alot of people were wanting to swap from canon to nikon for the low light controls, now canon have bought out models to match the performance, it wont be long untill nikon produce another body with the d3x sensor in it for sub 1k.

best thing to do is use the camera you feel most comfortable with, its the person pressing the buttons that really makes the diference

and from looking at your website it seems you like to extensivly process them digitally anyway so i shouldnt think you would need the best performing camera on the market

I suppose you have to ask yourself if you really need the resolution that you can get from the Canon 5D. I can't see anything aside from resolution that would warrant moving over to the 5D from the D700.

Do you actually need the extra resolution?

Switching systems really isn't a sensible thing from a monetary perspective. Just as I wouldn't have suggested that anyone move to a D700 from a Canon, I'll happily say the same in reverse. Competition between the two brands is great for us as customers, and it really is only a matter of time before Nikon release something like a D700x with the same sensor as the D3x.

I'd hold on to your Nikon stuff (eurgh, makes me feel dirty all over saying that :D ), as I think the amount you'll lose changing over all your glass just won't be worth it. I'm sure soon, Nikon will come up with something that will be just what you want, and it'll save you the hassle of switching. Who knows, one of these days they might even make something almost as good as a Canon

Chris

depends what you paid for the Nikon glass, if it was bought secondhand 3 years ago there's never been a better time to sell nikon lenses, you'll probably get £1500 for the D700 and as long as you're not expecting to replace everything with the canon equivalents overnight the odd bargain still comes up

Hit the nail on the head here. Are you frequently finding yourself having to extrapolate your photo's to give your clients the sized prints they need? If so, wait for the D700x (or equivalent) first, then decide.

If not, you're getting sucked into the MP race :)

i have a Epson 7600 A1 printer and would like to get the best out if it ... so a larger MP camera would certainly help .. as for the D700x do you reckon it will arrive at a reasonable price ... i mean look at the price of the D3x !

How many times are you actually going print something that uses the extra resolution?

dammit people let him sell it, there'll be a flood of nikon kit on the classifieds
