Ftp file standard

Hello everyone, new to here, so please bare with me.
I've recently secured a few shifts at my local paper and they require me to send images via ftp to their media servers.
I've done a few but, my metadata isn't the best, is there a standard I should be using in terms of how I label my files and the info I use.

Ask them for a style guide. Some local news titles don't even know how to read IPTC.
