Yes
I am new to Fuji and have this lens. As soon as I turn the camera on the lens makes a noise like the OIS is operating even when OIS is turned off. The camera is not set to continuous focus so what is going on? It must be a drain on the battery so do I have a duff?

A quick search on google seems to indicate this is normal.

Not the LM's is it?
What is LM's?

My only real concern is the battery drain. The batteries are small enough as it is, I may have to buy another spare.

Yep it's normal, I don't notice it at all anymore. The battery drain doesn't feel particularly excessive, my X-T1 with only the 50-140 attached managed over 1k shots on a single (Ex Pro) battery on Saturday.

My 55-200mm does it as well. I won't worry about it at all. If I remember right, some of my Nikon lenses did it as well

Many thanks for your replies, I shall try worry about it any more!

It is heavier than I would ideally like but it is an improvement over my old Nikon kit. Hubby has the 55-200 and that is significantly lighter but I just wanted the extra lens speed and that comes at a price which, for now, I am willing to accept.

Thanks,i had an Nikon Kit before Fuji, the Nikon 70-210 F2.8 got left at home most of the time just to big to carry, don't want to end up the same with 50-140 :(

I find it significantly lighter when out on a long shoot (done a few 10hr plus) than my Nikon days with a 70-200, no aches after which I always got with a DSLR.

That said I only take it out for specific events, if just out and about I will stick with the 23/56 combo.

It is so you can rotate a circ polariser with the hood still on.
